Frontend Desktop Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Frontend Desktop Engineer based remotely in Brazil . We are seeking a skilled Frontend Desktop Engineer to develop and maintain a cross-platform peer-to-peer (P2P) communications application built with React and powered by a decentralised runtime. In this role, you will contribute to an innovative software environment that enables direct application connectivity without relying on traditional server infrastructure. You will work across user interface development, application architecture, state management, testing, and performance optimisation to deliver a seamless desktop experience. Collaborating with a globally distributed engineering team, you will help build reliable, responsive, and maintainable applications for multiple operating systems. You will also have the opportunity to explore P2P networking, real-time communication, and decentralised technologies that support greater user privacy and control over personal data. Accountabilities - Develop, maintain, and enhance a cross-platform desktop communications application using React or Preact, JavaScript/TypeScript, and the Pear runtime. - Implement intuitive, responsive user interfaces and translate product requirements and design concepts into reliable frontend experiences. - Build and maintain application state management solutions using tools such as Redux, Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or comparable libraries. - Write modular, maintainable, well-tested code that follows established engineering standards and supports long-term scalability. - Test, debug, and troubleshoot complex frontend applications, identifying and resolving functional, performance, and stability issues. - Optimise application performance, including rendering efficiency, memory management, responsiveness, and resource utilisation.

- Contribute to cross-platform desktop application development and help ensure consistent behaviour across macOS, Windows, Linux, and other supported environments. - Work with peer-to-peer networking and distributed application technologies to support reliable connectivity, data exchange, and decentralised communication. - Integrate and support real-time communication capabilities, including audio and video functionality where applicable. - Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders in a remote, globally distributed team to plan, implement, review, and deliver software improvements. - Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, and continuous improvement of frontend architecture and development practices. - Contribute to the evolution of decentralised applications by identifying technical challenges and proposing practical, maintainable solutions. Requirements - Proven experience developing production-scale applications using React or Preact and modern JavaScript/TypeScript . - Strong understanding of frontend architecture, component design, and state management using Redux, Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or similar technologies. - Ability to write clean, modular, maintainable, and well-tested code. - Solid experience testing and debugging complex frontend applications and resolving challenging technical issues. - Strong understanding of UI performance optimisation, including rendering behaviour, memory management, and application responsiveness. - Genuine interest in or practical experience with peer-to-peer technologies, distributed systems, or decentralised applications. - Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a globally distributed engineering team.
