Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The main mandate of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is to promote sustainable development of human settlements and policies conducive to adequate housing for all. Within this framework, UN-Habitat supports central and state governments, as well as local authorities and other partners for the implementation of the Habitat Agenda, the 2030 Agenda with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer, more inclusive, compact, integrated, resilient and connected places with better opportunities where everyone can live with dignity. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society, and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development. The Regional Office for Latin American and the Caribbean \u2013 ROLAC \u2013 is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Agency puts emphasis on developing and managing activities in the host country. Indeed, for the past years, UN-Habitat has expanded its portfolio in Brazil by working with the three tiers of government to support the formulation and implementation of more effective, sustainable, participative, and socially fairer urban economic, social, and environmental policies. The second phase of the Social Territories Program aims to strengthen the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro\u2019s intersectoral strategy for addressing multidimensional urban poverty. It will do so by enhancing institutional capacity to produce, integrate, and use territorial evidence, while promoting actions that expand social participation, strengthen community belonging, and improve access to educational, cultural, and productive inclusion opportunities. To properly implement the above-mentioned project, a Junior Communications Assistant is required. Report to UN-Habitat Manager The Junior Communications Assistant reports to the Head of Brazil Office, who will evaluate him/her. Responsibilities The Junior Communications Assistant will support the implementation of the project, and its activities, with the following responsibilities: a) Participate in the production and organization of events, participatory workshops and meetings, in coordination with the UN-Habitat team and taking into consideration local needs and characteristics. b) Contribute to publication activities and content management, in accordance with the publishing, design and branding standards established in the relevant manuals. c) Contribute to the dissemination of corporate advocacy materials related to the launch of initiatives, publications and campaigns under the Social Territories Programme. d) Participate in the coverage of workshops, including photographic and other visual content related to the Social Territories Programme. e) Produce and publish human impact stories, workshop coverage and content related to activities undertaken in the territories, for dissemination through web pages and social media. f) Maintain an organized and accessible information and documentation system for communication materials and content produced. g) Deliver assigned communication activities within agreed deadlines and in accordance with established requirements. h) Prepare reports in accordance with applicable Portuguese-language standards and the norms of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). i) Contribute to ensuring that communication outputs are aligned with UN-Habitat quality expectations and the requirements of project counterparts. j) Monitor assigned deliverables in accordance with the work plan and agreed timelines. k) Maintain organized records of project activities, risks and key documentation. l) Prepare and format reports in accordance with ABNT guidelines, UN-Habitat quality standards and project requirements. m) Uphold ethical principles in the course of the assignment, particularly regarding active listening, respect for diversity, and the promotion of safe, inclusive and participatory learning environments. n) Perform other administrative, operational or management-related duties assigned by the Head of the Brazil Office, consistent with the functions of the position. The consultant will be responsible for completing all courses and training activities that are indicated to him/her by his/her supervisor. The security course BSAFE, from UNDSS, is required to be accredited during the first month of employment. The consultant will be responsible for his/her own security, so the person should get familiarized with United Nations security mechanisms and comply with them according to the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System. Outputs/Work Assignment The consultant shall be paid a monthly allowance, upon presentation and approval by the Head of Brazil Office of monthly activities\u2019 report.

Qualifications/special skillsEducation Required: \u2022 High School Diploma or additional two (2) years of relevant technical experience to the post, beyond the requirement. Desirable: \u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree in Communications or related fields is desirable. Work experience \u2022 Minimum of two (2) years of experience in communications and advocacy in Brazil is required. \u2022 Previous experience working in the United Nations is desirable. Skills \u2022 Pro\ufb01ciency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and web search tools is required. \u2022 A good knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable. Languages\u2022 English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office. \u2022 For the post advertised, fluency in Portuguese is required.

Additional InformationTravel details: Applicable The incumbent may be required to undertake official travel within Brazil, subject to project requirements and prior authorization of Head of Brazil Office. Remuneration Remuneration will be determined in accordance with the applicable UNOPS Local ICA or UNDP\u2019s salary scale and the level established through the official classification process.
